Today, I want to talk to you about getting creative with your videos by using a green screen. The first thing you’ll need is a green screen, which you can get from Amazon. There are a ton of options, and you don’t need to get fancy. Cheap works just fine. Here is a $10 option that is 5×7 feet.

The concept is pretty simple: Film your video with a green screen in the background, and you will easily be able to make unique edits.

But how might you ask? Well, let’s do just that right now.

I use Adobe Premiere Pro, but almost all video editing software works in the same way.

You open up the video in your editing software and look under effects for “Ultra Key”. Drag that to the video itself.

Please note: if you are using iMovie to edit you’ll use chroma keying instead of ultra key.

Once you’ve placed that on to your video, you’ll see you have new options in effects settings for your video. You want to look specifically for the “key color”. See that little ink dropper? Click it and then click the green screen on the video on your screen and magically the green will go away.

Now your video, which used to look like this, will have that green background removed.

Now anything you place behind it will appear. So in this case, I added a background of gold sparks.

Now, let’s get a little fancier. You can put a green color on your laptop screen, and it works just like a green screen would. See this?

If we use the Ultra key on that green part of your laptop. Again, drag the ultra key to the top of the video you want to edit.

Now, use the drop key to match that green color.

Now you can make the laptop play any video. Here are two different examples.

With the use of the green screen, you can make your laptop look like anything you want.

There are lots of unique things you can do with a green screen. These are just the most simplistic examples to show you how it works and to let you know that it’s not as complicated to do as some may think it is.
