Is Holly Hendrix Latina or Black or?

I got an email today about Holly Hendrix and I wanted to share it with you in case you were curious as well.

Kelli, Just wanted to know if Holly Hendrix was the first African American girl to win the best new starlet?

While she may look black on the cover of the Evil Angel movie, Holly Hendrix’s Anal Experience, I’m pretty sure that’s just a wig because as far as I know she’s always had brown hair.

So is Holly Hendrix black? That’s hard to answer properly. She’s not of African descent. While I think her mother is white, in previous interviews she has said that she is Latina and upon further research I found that her father is from Guyana in South America. So while one might immediately think, oh that makes her Latina then.

The problem is, if you Google what the people of Guyana look like, you can see they are differently dark skinned and different than how you would normally picture someone from South America might look. So is she black? I would say it appears so.

Like Jessica Alba, people have a hard time figuring out her ethnicity. I understand that. But does it really matter if she is black or white or Latina or some crazy mix of the three?

So to answer the original question, she is not the first “African American” to win the AVN award for Best New Starlet, but she may very well be the first black performer to win.

The first winner of the Best New Starlet award was in 1984 and it went to Rachel Ashley. There has been a total of 35 winners of the award from 1984 to 2017. One year there were twin winners (1990) when Victoria paris and Tori Welles both won.
