Some males have reported making as little as $150 per scene, but I found that is usually the rate for lower end POV scenes or those shot in Florida. Overall Florida companies tend to pay less than those production companies in California for both male and female talent.
But when it comes to well known male talent, who do work in Porn Valley, what are they making?
When I was producing my first movie, Hocus Pocus XXX in 2010, I had a rather large cast budget but most of that money went to the females. I was surprised to learn that the males in porn make nothing compared to the girls.
So what are the numbers? What do male porn stars really make?
Johnny Castle, for example, made $650 while his co-star, Nikki Benz, was paid $2,000 for the very same scene.
Otto Bauer was paid $600, while his wife at the time, Audrey Hollander, was paid $1,400 for the same scene.
Rocco Reed was one of the hottest male performers at the time, yet he only made $750 for a scene that his co-star Eva Angelina was paid $2,100 for.
It’s been a while since I made that movie, so I decided to reach out and find out what men are making today. Turns out not much has changed for the males in the last few years.
Former male performer Danny Wylde said in a recent interview that he started out making about $300 a scene but eventually could command between $500 and $700 per scene. In all he did about 600 scenes during the span of his career before he had to retire due to abusing erectile dysfunction drugs like Cialis.
Chad White, who is popular with the ladies, makes about $700 a scene. But then agai,n considering some scenes only take an hour or two to film, that’s not bad money for a day’s work.
Markus Dupree, who is rather new to the industry but well-liked by producers for his professionalism and female talent for his skill in the sack, is paid $700 a scene.
Jack Vegas makes $500 per scene.
Nick Manning, who was inducted into the AVN Hall of Fame not too long ago and has more than 2,000 scene credits to his name, makes anywhere between $500 and $750 per scene.
It’s interesting to note that while their female co-stars are paid extras for things like threesomes or anal or interracial sex, male porn stars are not. They get paid the same amount of money no matter if they are having sex with one girl or two, in her vagina or in her ass or, no matter what race or ethnicity their co-star is.
Oftentimes, male performers aren’t even given credit in the scene description or DVD cover.
When I asked one retailer why they didn’t list the male talent who was in a movie their response was that it wasn’t worth the effort to find out what male was in the scene. “Who cares what man is in the scene? Porn is about the women.“
And in many ways, he is right. People often say porn empowers women to take control of their sexuality and it may very well be one of the few industries left in the world that pay females far more than their male counterparts.
But more than just paying them better, the industry also promotes their careers more and provides females with more alternatives to make additional income (other than just making movies) than they do for male performers.
Male porn stars, however, don’t seem to be complaining too much. But then again, considering there is a line 10 miles long with men who want to replace them, guess they just count their lucky stars to have the job they do in the first place.
In fact, one agent estimates that he gets about 100 requests from men about getting into porn than for every one female.
At my site “HOW TO BE A PORN STAR“, I did a count the other day. I had 174 applications, and of those, only 12 were from females.
In the end, porn is about the women, and as such, the females will always make more. But still, the money the men do make isn’t so bad. How many men can say they make $500 or even as much as $700 for a day’s work, and they get to actually have sex with a hot girl at the office?
