Actions have consiquences. Something I’ve long said about content creators who are taking risks without fully understanding the risks.
I spoke to a content creator yesterday who had no idea that selling piss videos could land her in jail.
I can’t tell you how many I’ve spoken to that had no idea that filming content in public places can also land you in jail and even worse, on the sex offenders database.
Your actions have real and sometimes dire consequences, and just because you didn’t know what you were doing was illegal, won’t stop them from putting you in jail. Ignorance of the law is no excuse.
This is a lesson a man learned the hard way. His X account, which has now been deleted (@Oliver_WoodX), was caught posting naughty videos taken while in Bali.
He was arrested in Indonesia for allegedly producing and distributing pornographic content while residing in the country on a tourist visa.
Taylor Kirby Whitemore was detained on March 25 at Ngurah Rai International Airport in Bali as he attempted to board a flight to Malaysia, according to Yuldi Yusman, acting director general of immigration at the Indonesian Ministry of Immigration and Corrections. Whitemore is accused of violating Indonesia’s strict anti-pornography laws, which prohibit the production, distribution, and sale of explicit material.
The 33-year-old U.S. citizen had reportedly entered Indonesia on January 25. Officials allege that during his stay, he operated accounts on X (formerly Twitter) and Telegram where he promoted sexually explicit content and processed payments for access to pornographic videos. Authorities believe the content in question was produced in Indonesia.
“We strongly suspected that the promoted videos he produced were taken in Indonesia,” Yusman said at a news conference in Jakarta. Digital forensic investigators used facial recognition software integrated with the country’s immigration system to help identify Whitemore, Yusman added.
After his arrest, Whitemore was transferred from Bali to Jakarta on May 16 for continued detention and investigation. Appearing at Wednesday’s press briefing, Whitemore was presented to the media wearing an orange detention vest and a mask, with his hands bound. He did not make a statement.
Whitemore is charged with violating Indonesia’s Pornography Law and immigration regulations, carrying a potential sentence of up to five years in prison and a fine of up to 500 million rupiah (approximately $30,500) if convicted.
Indonesia maintains some of the world’s most restrictive laws on adult content. As the largest Muslim-majority nation, the country’s legal framework incorporates elements of civil, customary, and Islamic law. The possession, creation, or dissemination of pornographic material is criminalized under legislation passed in 2008.
Cases involving foreigners and explicit content are rare but not unprecedented. In 2019, Indonesian authorities arrested a British man in Bali who sold sexually explicit videos of himself online. The U.S. Embassy in Jakarta has not issued a public statement regarding Whitemore’s arrest. He remains in custody as the investigation continues.
