As I’m sure most of you know by now, there is a hold no all production. This is due to the rumor that a performer has tested positive for HIV.
Rumors immediately began to fly who this person may be. The truth is, none of us know 100% for sure right now but the majority of the rumors point to a transsexual performer who may (or may not have) done crossover work.
Typically the FSC won’t call for a moratorium if a transsexual or gay performer pops positive as they don’t deal with that side of the industry. But this time they have. So the question is why? There are a few rumors as to that as well, but some are saying and this makes sense, is that the called the halt because the person was a crossover performer, or has been in the past.
For those of you who don’t understand the term, this is an individual who works on both sides of the fence. One day he or she may have sex with a transsexual or a gay man and then the next day film a scene in the mainstream sector. They ‘cross over’ from one sector of the industry to the next.
The problem with this is, the three sectors don’t have compatible testing policies so it can make them a higher risk for HIV and other STDs.
It’s important to the Free Speech Coalition that they be able to continue to say we have never had an “on set transmission”. You’ll hear that phrase being thrown around often.
There is a lot of legal and political bullshit that goes with that phrase. However, I don’t care about that. What I care about is your safety and well-being.
The rumor is the person who tested positive is a male performer, a transsexual.
But don’t think you are safe just because you haven’t personally been with a transsexual. You have to wonder, who have you been with that has been with one. Did you do a scene with someone who might just the day before done a scene in the gay or transsexual sector?
For many years people have spoken out against crossover performers for this very reason. I can’t tell you how many years of fighting people like Christian X, who for his own selfish reasons would put out misinformation and even attack girls who put him on his no list.
Being gay is not a bad thing.
Being transgendered is not a bad thing.
This has never been about homophobia. It’s been about statistics. And statistically speaking there is a higher rate of possible transmission due to different testing protocols. And when it comes to your life, those statistics and those rates of POSSIBLY getting HIV, become a big deal.
I’m not going to name names but there are some agents (at least two that I know of) who have any male crossover performer on their automatic NO lists for all of their performers for two years. I think it was two years, it may be three. When that two years has passed, and the male in question hasn’t done any crossover work, their ban is lifted. These agents don’t do this to be dicks. They do it to protect their performers.
They aren’t saying that all gay or transgendered performers have HIV, just that statistically speaking, there is a higher rate of transmission, according to the US government.
- The government tells us that gay and bisexual men accounted for 83%of the estimated new HIV diagnoses among all males aged 13 and older and 67% of the total estimated new diagnoses in the United States.
And that’s a scary number for anyone, but that in itself isn’t the only real problem.
The mainstream porn community is required to test every 14 days. It’s not the same in the gay and transgendered porn community.
So if you test today, who cares if you sleep with someone who isn’t tested and has a higher possible rate of transmission. Or you sleep with someone who slept with someone who has a higher possible rate of transmission.
I’m really not trying to spread hate. I’m just saying EDUCATE YOURSELF AND BE CAREFUL.
Know the facts. Know not only who you slept with but who the person you are sleeping with has slept with. Talk to your agent about working with crossovers and see what they think. Discuss it together. Learn about their testing protocols. Learn about what the CDC has to say about it which groups are at the highest risk and why.
EDUCATE YOURSELF!
You deserve a long, happy and healthy life. Do your research. Take the time to find out who you are sleeping with. Don’t just assume someone else has done it for you.
