Sharing just got a whole lot simpler. Instagram has officially rolled out its new Repost feature, allowing you to share Reels, feed posts, and carousels straight to your own profile—where they even get their own dedicated home.
Whether you’re a creator seeking more exposure or simply someone who wants to share content you love, this update is designed to make connecting easier and more impactful.
How to Use the Repost Feature
Step 1: Check your app: If you don’t see the feature yet, update your app. Instagram is still rolling it out globally, so it may take a bit to reach your account.
Step 2: Find the repost button: While scrolling, look for two arrows in a circle—you’ll see it just to the left of the paper airplane icon.
Step 3: Tap to repost: When you find a post, Reel, or carousel you want to share, tap the button. Instagram will publish it directly to your followers’ feeds and save it in your Reposts tab on your profile.
Step 4: Add context: A small thought bubble will appear—this is your chance to add a note explaining why you’re sharing the content. Adding context helps your followers connect with it and understand why it’s on your feed.
Step 5: Save and done: Hit Save, and you’re finished. Accidentally reposted? Tap the button again to remove it.
Where to Find Your Reposts
On your profile, you’ll see three or four tabs:
- Your feed posts
- Your Reels
- Your Reposts – This is where all your shared content lives, making it easy to revisit or clean up later.
Why Reposting Matters
- Boosts your reach without creating new content from scratch.
- Gives creators free distribution, helping them reach new audiences.
- Keeps curated content organized in one place.
- Lets you add your personal touch, making reposts feel intentional instead of random.
What to Avoid
🚫 Sharing without watching or reading fully: Don’t repost just because the first few seconds look good; the ending might send the wrong message. You don’t want to repost a racist or misogynistic message accidentally.
🚫 Over-reposting: If half your feed is other people’s content, followers might forget why they followed you in the first place. Make sure you find the right balance. I love to stick with the 80/20 rule, which is 80% real, authentic posts, 20% other stuff (promo, etc.)
For creators, this new Instagram feature is more than just a tool—it’s an opportunity. Instead of relying only on story “shoutouts” where friends ask their followers to check you out, they can now repost one of your actual posts, giving you direct visibility in their feed and a better chance to win new followers.
